Current Employee Current Employee Mr. San Francisco

Advice to law firm management:
Management should be more open minded and listen to their staff members. Recognize someone's hard work more often; this could go a long way.

Pros:
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Cons:
Management doesn't like to take advice or ideas unless someone high on the food chain suggests it. There is little to no time for a life outside the firm. There is very minimal promotion and growth within the firm, even if you've been here longer than ten years.

Diversity Write a review

Kirkland believes that lawyers should offer the highest level of commitment to the profession. The firm is dedicated to building a team of lawyers who bring a broad range of benefits though they come from different socioeconomic, racial, ethnic and personal backgrounds. Our commitment to diversity is reflected not only in the Firm's policies, programs and committees, but also through our efforts to build and maintain a culture that values and gathers strength from difference.

Kirkland is a strong and dynamic institution with a strategic network of offices located in major business centers around the globe. In line with our strategy of sensible, organic growth, the Firm has expanded geographically to meet the needs of our clients while maintaining a strong focus on quality control. The Diversity Fellowship Program provides a $15,000 stipend payable during the recipient's third year of law school. Since its inception, the firm has awarded 82 fellowship grants totaling more than $1.2 million.

In 2008, Kirkland launched a unique and highly effective program called "ALLSA", an inclusive term that reflects our formal mission to reach out to "all" racial, ethnic, women's, and LGBT student groups (i.e., BLSA, APALSA, OUTLaw, etc.) at law schools across the country.

Summer associate program

Kirkland is unique because of the emphasis that the firm places on formal training and development of their lawyers. Kirkland's summer associate program does more than just teach the associates about the basics but offers students a realistic glimpse of their future as a lawyer.

Kirkland is a reputable firm and offers competitive salary, coupled with excellent opportunities for training with experienced and successful lawyers. Summer associates are assigned with challenging work and the opportunity to take real responsibility early and often. There are various summer associate training programs including Litigation training, Transactional Training, Restructuring Training and so on.

Working for the Kirkland & Ellis LLP
Kirkland & Ellis is a thriving and energetic place to work and unique too. The firm recruits talented individuals from diverse backgrounds who have brilliant ideas to drive the firm forward. The firm boosts achievement and growth on individual basis.

Most lawyers will be allowed to work directly with partners on challenging cases and transactions right from first day. One can learn immensely through hands-on experience and can develop more easily than other peers working in other firms.

In addition to the early responsibility, the training is one area which the firm delivers impeccably well. Training provided by Kirkland Institute has been widely recognized as among the best in the country. Mock trial exercises, lectures and presentations are held in tandem from time to time.

All Kirkland attorneys can take on assignments through a "free-market" system where they can pick and choose what interests them, and the cases which have the ability to shape their career and work experience.
