Notable cases
- In March 2012, Kirkland & Ellis LLP won a major victory for its client Morgan Stanley and other underwriters in the case Credit Suisse v. Simmonds in the Supreme Court. The verdict was 8-0 and the Supreme Court reversed the Ninth Circuit's ruling. Kirkland was joined by other law firms and the case involved the time allowed for filing a lawsuit to recover impermissible short-swing profits under Section 16(b) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. Now plaintiffs will not be able to bring Section 16(b) claims after the time limit has passed.
- Kirkland & Ellis represented retail giant The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc. (A&P) and its affiliates in their Chapter 11 cases. In March 2012, A&P emerged from bankruptcy and its reorganization was the largest one of a debtor-retailer after the changes in the Bankruptcy Code in 2005.

The Diversity Fellowship Program provides a $15,000 stipend payable during the recipient's third year of law school.
