What would you, or others, like to see changed at employer?
As with all firms, this opportunity is what you make of it. Some attorneys will succeed brilliantly in this environment. Others may not be able to live up to the high standards.

What were the things that you liked most about this employer?
The firm allows associates to earn as much as they want. This is a good practice if you can put in the hours all day, every day. Many associates appreciate this opportunity to grow and earn as they see fit and manage their own schedules.

What did you not like about this institution?
Some of this firm's clients are of the unsavory persuasion. This may put you off if you are in the position to defend them in court. You will need to make sure your professionalism game is "on point."

Make an effort to remember the people at lower levels contribute to your success just as much as the rainmakers at the top. Foster a more team based system.

What were the things that you liked most about this employer?
The firm takes care of its employees and the attorneys are the best of the best. You can expect to learn a lot if you make the effort to reach out to them. The firm has a lot of work, resources and a heavy caseload.

What did you not like about this institution?
There is a very heavily weighted preference for those at the top. The workload can be very overbearing sometimes and require long hours. It can be hard to build a client base.

Pro bono

Pro bono legal and community service is an integral part of Cozen O'Connor's past, present and future. As attorneys who play an active role in the legal and justice systems, we recognize both that there is a tremendous, unmet need for legal services for those who cannot afford them and that it is our obligation to help provide those services. The term pro bono is shorthand for the Latin phrase pro bono publico - "For the public good. " It is a responsibility we take very seriously.

Cozen O'Connor has historically provided a level of pro bono legal service worthy of its national reputation. We emphasize one-to-one attorney-client pro bono relationships in which attorneys provide legal assistance to people and institutions of limited means. We are a signatory to the Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge of the Pro Bono Institute at Georgetown University Law Center.

In order to promote a more diverse and inclusive workplace as well as a diverse bar, the firm established a Diversity Committee in the late 1990s, which is led by the firm's Director of Diversity, Inclusion and Pro Bono. The Diversity Committee comprises attorneys across each of the firm's 23 offices as well as the firm's hiring, marketing and professional development professionals. In addition, there is a Diversity Advisory Committee composed of former Diversity Committee chairs, firm management and persons on the board of directors. The Diversity Committee works closely with firm management to ensure the firm's diversity and inclusion efforts are implemented and that the firm realizes its abiding commitment to recruiting the best team of professionals, to partnering with the communities we represent, and to maximizing the unique potential of each of the attorneys and staff in our employ.
