I'd definitely recommend applying to this firm if they have an opening. But it might be more suitable as a stepping stone to a better-paying job in the future.

Offer training courses for secretaries. Keep on growing and expanding.
What were the things that you liked most about this employer?
The offices are renovated and the cafeteria is great. There is a good corporate culture. It has a great reputation.
What did you not like about this institution?
There is not enough appreciation for senior partners. Be prepared to work on weekends.

Simpson Thacher looks for candidates with records of distinguished achievement, commitment to excellence and ability to work cooperatively with clients and colleagues. It hires law students of the very highest caliber. The firm provides training and experience, one-on-one mentoring, a commitment to diversity, and an open, friendly atmosphere.
The firm hosts interviews - each less than half an hour - and recruits at job fairs at over 30 campuses nationwide. On completion of its on-campus interviews, the firm invites eligible candidates to visit the firm in New York City at the firm's expense for further interviews with partners and associates.
If the candidate is found suitable to the firm and its culture, he or she will be offered to join as a summer associate.
Pro bono
Simpson Thacher's commitment to pro bono work is significant. The firm's achievements include its epic victory on behalf of New York City public school children in the Campaign For Fiscal Equity. The Firm's ten-year dedication to the New York City schools case is one of the largest pro bono commitments by any law firm.
The firm also represents inmates on death row, asylum seekers, trafficking victims, indigenous Nicaraguans seeking to preserve their land claims, struggling micro-entrepreneurs, and non-governmental organizations such as Doctors Without Borders.

Summer Associate Program
Simpson Thacher has 11 to 12-week summer associate program at its Los Angeles, New York, Palo Alto and Washington, D.C. offices. Summer associates are given freedom to choose a single department or work for multiple departments, and receive assignments from a team of partners and associates.
The summer associates are expected to complete about 10 projects during summer, and typically bill about five to six hours a day working on assignments.
In summer 2010, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP had a class of 100 associates. The salary for first year law students, is unknown, but second and third year law students are paid $3,080 per week.
Every Simpson office participates in the summer program.

The firm provides four weeks of annual vacation and most associates use it entirely. For family leave, the firm provides 18 weeks for primary caregivers, and four weeks for secondary caregivers. The firm also allows associates to work on part-time and on flexible schedules.
