I don't personally have a problem with an annual review that includes the salary discussion, but perhaps a second, slightly more informal pure performance review around the 6 month mark would help employees target their weaknesses.
Good opportunities to advance, every attorney I've dealt with across multiple practice groups has been willing to take time out of their day to help out. Hours aren't killer for being a relatively large practice. Clean and well-kept, mostly quiet with a few exceptions. Decent place to work overall.
Pay is commensurate with the low side of Boston market value for entry-level attorneys/support staff.
It's about half and half partner/associates (in terms of title, at least) and I've had no problems with either.
Location is VERY convenient (there's maybe 4 or 5 firms in Boston which are this close to public transportation) overall a good place to work.

Start paying people what they are worth. The department heads and attorneys are paid well, but the support staff.
The HR Department is amazing, and will bend over backwards to help you if you are a good worker.
The Acct Dept/ Finance. Over works staff, little pay. They waits months to submit yearly reviews. The accounting/ finance department has clicks if you are not apart of the click you are left out.
The Partners are amazing. They are very professional and courteous, and are always willing to help when they can.
The flexibility and amazing support staff, perks and benefits. The firm shows it’s appreciation in other way as oppose to monitory gain.
