Advice to law firm management:
Extend legal secretary training. I think this would reduce the errors they make, as well as improve morale. I have relied upon a good secretary before and everyone should have access to good legal secretaries.
Pros:
The attorneys and support staff at the firm are great and very helpful. They also encourage attorneys to work together when relevant as well as mentor junior associates. The firm is in Los Angeles so there are a lot of cases but the workload isn't terrible. I was able to maintain a good work life balance.
Cons:
I think the training of the legal secretaries could be a bit better. I found that they all said the same thing that it was rushed. I think if it dragged out a bit more they would learn firm procedures better. Otherwise there isn't anything wrong with the firm that stands out.

Cox, Castle & Nicholson has a summer program for second-year law students that provides a challenging and realistic law firm experience. Our program gives students a chance to interact with associates and partners to gain an understanding of the firm's culture. We believe that our people, the quality of our work product, and our overall working environment truly distinguishes us from other top law firms. Indeed, a large percentage of our partners were former summer clerks and have spent their entire careers at the firm.
A typical summer class ranges from two to four students. The smaller size fosters a very friendly environment and enables us to give each student individualized attention and training. Our summer clerks work on varied, interesting transactional and litigation projects, and generally receive prompt and constructive feed-back on their work.

As a young and thriving California practice, Buchalter Nemer began by assisting clients in business and finance, and representing them in litigation and insolvency. As the business community grew, the firm grew along with it, diversifying and expanding to meet new and growing de...
