Overview:
The 2025 Summer Paid Program at the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) offers law students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and make a difference in the field of health care law. As an intern with the Health Care Bureau (HCB) in New York City, you will have the chance to work on important cases and projects related to consumer protection, health care access, and policy initiatives. This paid placement is a great opportunity for law students looking to gain valuable experience and contribute to the protection of consumers in New York state.
Responsibilities:
• Assist with civil prosecutions for violations of health, insurance, deceptive practice, and antidiscrimination laws.
• Conduct legal research and draft legal documents related to ongoing cases.
• Participate in meetings and discussions with attorneys and other professionals.
• Assist with legislative and policy initiatives to enhance the rights of health care consumers.
• Work on projects related to increasing access to quality, affordable health care in New York state.
Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in a law school program.
• Strong interest in health care law and consumer protection.
• Excellent research and writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to promoting diversity and serving the diverse population of New York state.
• Previous experience in the legal field is not required, but candidates with relevant experience will be given priority.
How to Apply:

2. Applications are accepted until February 28, 2025, with paid placement offers made on a rolling basis.
3. Limit your application submissions to five (5) total across all bureaus/regional offices.
4. Prepare the following documents for submission:
- Cover Letter: Addressed to the Legal Recruitment Unit, explaining your interest in a placement with OAG and why you are a strong candidate.
- Resume: Ensure it is complete and up-to-date.
- List of three (3) references: Professional references only, with contact information and email addresses.
- Writing Sample: Between 5-10 pages, demonstrating your legal analysis, advocacy, and writing skills.
5. Choose your format preference: hybrid or remote placement. Some bureaus/offices may only offer hybrid placements.
6. If selected for an interview, you will be contacted directly by the bureau.
Tips for Success:
• Confer with your school's public interest/public service career advisors or financial aid office to learn about available funding for public interest/public service placements.
• Submit your application at least three (3) weeks before any deadlines that could impact your candidacy.
• Have someone review and proofread your application materials before submitting them online.
• Keep in mind that once submitted, you will not be able to access or edit your application, so make sure it is complete and error-free.
