Associate Coverage Counsel
The candidate will make coverage determinations for workers compensation and liability claims submitted under policies for which the company is the claims administrator. Provide guidance to claim adjusters, supervisors and managers concerning coverage for claims under policies as well as reviewing coverage position letters prior to issuance. Work with claims and outside coverage counsel to manage coverage litigation. Legal research and analysis, including providing conclusions and recommendations for the most complex/high exposure claims. Develop and analyze broad claims and litigation data with a focus on isolating areas of concern and improvement. Maintain a diary of pending lawsuits across various jurisdictions, with varying degrees of complexity, in a manner that reflects efficient organization and the ability to address multiple issues relative to multiple cases. Develop talent within the Litigation Department including managing growth of colleagues and the department itself. Succinct presentation of complex issues to colleagues in the Claim, Litigation and Underwriting Departments. Keep current with market trends and demands. Perform other functionally related duties as assigned.
