Overview:

The Senior Associate General Counsel for Risk Management and Compliance will lead a legal team responsible for providing strategic, regulatory, and policy advice to key enterprise-wide internal client groups. This position will have the opportunity to work with senior leaders from various business lines and support units, and provide counsel on complex legal matters affecting the entire organization.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead and develop a team responsible for providing legal advice to key enterprise-wide internal client groups, including Risk Management, Regulatory Affairs, and Compliance.
- Maintain a holistic view of legal and risk positions across multiple support functions and business lines.
- Provide counsel and advice on complex legal matters to senior executives, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Participate in and provide strategic advice to key risk management committees.
- Proactively identify potential areas of risk and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Collaborate with other functional partners and Legal teams to resolve issues and drive initiatives.
- Develop and implement streamlined policies and procedures for legal support.
- Prepare or review complex materials with external legal counsel.
- Manage staffing, performance evaluations, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management, and terminations.
- Contribute to department-wide priorities through participation in projects and initiatives.

Scope of Responsibilities:

This senior level position requires interaction with senior and executive management on a regular basis. The incumbent will provide analysis and counsel on legal issues for key enterprise-wide internal client groups, and be able to anticipate and mitigate legal risks facing the organization.

Education and Experience Required:

- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience as an attorney or relevant legal experience.
- Minimum of 7 years' work leadership experience.
- Admission to the New York State or applicable state bar.
- Experience supporting Risk Management, Regulatory Affairs, and a variety of Compliance functions.
- Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Excellent writing, analytical, and verbal skills.
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.

Education & Experience Preferred:

- Experience supporting risk management and compliance within the banking/financial services industry.

There is potential for a remote work arrangement if the final candidate is not near one of these locations.
