Description:

- The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., Alaska is seeking a highly motivated and committed individual to join their team as an Assistant Municipal Attorney I/II (Hybrid).
- The primary focus of this position is criminal prosecution and providing legal guidance to the Juneau Police Department.

Responsibilities:

- Prosecute misdemeanors and criminal infractions, such as assaults, driving under the influence, larceny, regulatory offenses, and code enforcement.
- Participate in court-directed programs, such as the Coordinated Resources Project (CRP).
- Manage all stages of trial and appeal, including legal research, briefing, and oral argument.
- Share 24/7 calls and weekend arraignments.
- Assist other City departments by answering legal questions and drafting legal opinions.
- Perform other related work as required.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Alaska and be a member in good standing of the Alaska Bar

Desired Qualifications:
- Experience as a legal intern or clerk is preferred for Assistant Attorney I.
- Four (4) years of professional level legal experience as an attorney for Assistant Attorney II.

Note: The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications. If hired at the lower level, the successful applicant will be promoted to the higher level upon meeting the minimum qualifications for the higher level, completing the training plan and demonstrating competency in the work as determined by the supervisor.

Working Hours and Location:

- This position generally works Monday through Friday 8:00 . – 4:30 .
- The position alternates being on-, - $121, Annually (DOE) for Assistant Attorney I.
- Range 324 - $129, - $138, Annually (DOE) for Assistant Attorney II.

About the Law Department:

- The mission of the Law Department is to empower policymakers by drafting, explaining, and enforcing the law.
- The department consists of a criminal prosecution section with two prosecutors and two paralegals, and a civil section with three attorneys and one paralegal.
- Support staff are supervised by the office manager, and the municipal attorney supervises the attorneys and provides overall policy direction to the office.

APSIN Clearance:

- This position works directly with CBJ systems and may require submitting to a pre-employment fingerprint based criminal history background check.
- Final offer of employment is contingent on obtaining DPS security clearance.
- An applicant with adult criminal convictions will not move forward in the recruitment and selection process.
- Background Check Authority: AS and 13 AAC
