COUNSEL, DATA PROTECTION & PRIVACY - WASHINGTON, DC

SpaceX is seeking a highly experienced Counsel, Data Protection & Privacy to join their team in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have a JD from an ABA accredited school and at least 4 years of post-JD experience, with a strong background in global privacy and data security requirements. In this role, you will be responsible for managing compliance with data protection laws and regulations around the world, as well as driving initiatives to meet best practices in privacy. You will also serve as the legal representative on cross-functional teams and assist with incident response and regulatory engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Advise on and manage compliance with data protection laws in markets worldwide
- Drive initiatives to meet data protection best practices and regulatory requirements
- Maintain subject matter expertise in multiple areas of privacy
- Respond to inquiries from data protection regulators
- Negotiate data privacy and security provisions with suppliers, partners, and enterprise customers
- Assist with incident response and related regulatory engagement
- Communicate, educate, and train employees on data protection and privacy issues

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

- JD from an ABA accredited school
- 4+ years of post-JD experience
- In-house legal experience or experience at a law firm working with corporate clients
- Experience with global privacy and data security requirements

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

- Significant knowledge of and experience with establishing and managing global privacy and data security programs
- Familiarity with technology and the ability to interact with highly technical engineers and security personnel
- Great people skills and ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment
- Experience with telecommunications and/or internet service providers
- Ability to identify technical infrastructure requirements for privacy compliance

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Must be admitted to the bar, in good standing, in at least one . State
- This position is based in Washington, DC and requires being onsite - remote work not considered
- Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

- Pay range: Counsel, Data Protection & Privacy: $190, - $245, year
