Join our nonprofit legal team as a Cobb Staff Attorney with the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.! We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team in Cobb County, located in downtown Marietta. Our organization represents low-income individuals in a variety of civil legal matters, including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education, and health law.
As a Staff Attorney, you will handle a mixed caseload using various methods such as community education, advice and referral, brief service, transactional work, negotiation, mediation, and litigation. A significant portion of the caseload will focus on housing and family law matters, with a strong emphasis on litigation. We also encourage our attorneys to participate in task forces, committees, social service organizations, and local bar associations.
To be considered for this position, you must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia (preferred) or eligible to sit for the next exam. We are looking for individuals with a strong work ethic, excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team. Adaptability, appreciation of diversity, and the ability to balance compassion and pragmatism are also necessary qualities for this role. Previous experience in public service, participation in law school clinics or trial advocacy courses, familiarity with poverty law, and work with low-income individuals are strongly preferred. Proficiency in languages other than English is highly valued.
The salary for this position starts at $55,250+ depending on experience, with potential for annual increases. We recently engaged a compensation consultant to review our current structure and make recommendations for improvement. We also offer generous fringe benefits, including 18 paid holidays (in 2024), 6 weeks paid time off, 6 weeks parental leave, health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance, partial payment for dependent health insurance, and a salary reduction option for a flexible spending account. We also provide educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month and offer a voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with a 3% match. We cover Georgia Bar dues and CLE expenses. This position may also be eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness through the . Department of Education.
