Job Summary:
The Maryland Judiciary is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Law Clerk. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable legal experience and contribute to the justice system in Maryland. The Law Clerk will support a Judge by conducting legal research, reviewing motions, drafting memoranda, and attending court proceedings. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school and prior legal writing experience. This is a full-time, at-will position with a salary range of $63,119 - $70,120, depending on qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and provide up-to-date information to the Judge on a case-by-case basis.
- Review motions and court files.
- Draft memoranda and revise work product.
- Attend court proceedings as requested by the Judge.
- Triage and deliver chamber work prior to sending to the Judge.
- Perform various duties based on the level of the court, including District Court, Circuit Court, Appellate Court of Maryland, and Supreme Court of Maryland.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Prior legal writing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of laws, court procedures, and case progression.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to perform legal research and understand law-related materials.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to apply policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and laws as required.
- Must be a United States citizen or eligible to work in the United States.
Salary Information:
- Appellate Law Clerks (1st Year): $68,499
- Circuit Court and District Court Law Clerks:
- Non-Bar Member: $63,119
- Bar Member in any State: $70,120
