Legal Assistant/Paralegal RESPONSIBILITIES: Answering phones. Data Entry including creating and maintaining client files. Organizing and maintaining documents in paper and/or electronic systems. Close communication and correspondence with clients, attorneys, physicians, courts and state agencies via letter, email, fax, and phone. Draft engagement letters. Draft, proofread, revise, and edit correspondence and legal documents. Manage incoming and outgoing mail. Serve documents via regular mail and certified mail and keep track/record of certified mailings. Scanning and filing. Manage calendars and appointments. Filing important and time sensitive documents with courts and state agencies. Assist attorneys and experienced staff as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: Fluency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, OneDrive, etc.) and Adobe. Accuracy and attention to detail are necessary. Proficiency with scanning/filing/sending documents. Ability to organize and maintaining electronic and paper files. Ability to follow directions, organize, plan, and prioritize work to meet deadlines. Ability to build rapport with clients, court staff, and state agency staff. Strong listening, reading, organizational, and communication skills. Ability and willingness to learn and follow court and/or agency rules. Ability to work independently on tasks. Ability to quickly learn and follow new systems, procedures, and/or scripts. Ability to work on multiple concurrent matters under reasonable pressure. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with special needs individuals. Familiarity or previous experience with any of the following: guardianship, special education, wills, trusts, social security, or Medicaid. Some understanding of the issues/areas individuals with special needs and/or their families must often navigate.
