**Job Title: Assistant United States Attorney (Civil)**
**Job Responsibilities:**
The Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Civil Division of the Southern District of Texas is responsible for litigating a wide array of cases involving significant and complex issues on behalf of the United States in federal court. The role includes:
- Enforcing federal civil laws to protect life, liberty, and property.
- Working on immigration enforcement matters, issuing warrants, and defending asylum and passport cases, as well as general civil litigation.
- Engaging in a fast-paced, challenging, and varied caseload with frequent courtroom appearances.
- Increasing responsibilities and handling more complex civil assignments as training and experience progress.
- Collaborating with a team of dedicated legal professionals to uphold the Department of Justice's mission.
**Education and Experience Information:**
- Applicants must possess a Juris Doctor (.) degree.
- Be an active member of the bar in any . jurisdiction.
- Have at least one year of . legal or other relevant experience.
- United States citizenship is required.
Preferred qualifications include strong academic credentials, superior legal research and writing skills, quick analytical ability, high-volume courtroom experience, and outstanding organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills. Experience with first-chair jury trials is preferred. Candidates should be computer proficient and self-sufficient in legal research and writing.
**Salary Information:**
The salary for an Assistant United States Attorney is administratively determined and based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $63, to $165,, excluding locality pay.
**Additional Information:**
- The position is located in Houston or McAllen, Texas.
- The Department of Justice offers a comprehensive benefits package, including paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, life insurance, health benefits, and participation in the Federal Employees Retirement System.
- Relocation expenses will not be authorized.
- Initial attorney positions at the Department of Justice are made on a 14-month temporary basis, pending favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

- Security requirements include a satisfactory preemployment adjudication comprising fingerprint, credit, and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is contingent on a favorable background investigation.
