At United States Liability Insurance Company (USLI), we are seeking an experienced legal professional to join our dynamic Legal & Compliance Team as Counsel. In this role, you will provide guidance and direction on legal and compliance matters related to data privacy and cybersecurity regulations. You will also act as a liaison between the Legal & Compliance Team and the Information Technology Team to proactively respond to changing regulatory landscape on information storage and use.

As Counsel, you will also have the opportunity to learn about the property and casualty insurance business and our company culture and business model. You will have a thorough understanding of state and foreign data privacy and cybersecurity regulations and advise and direct our response and compliance program. Additionally, you will collaborate with third-party vendors and service providers to ensure compliance with contractual obligations related to data privacy.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, action-oriented, and embraces our CARE² values as a cornerstone of the Legal & Compliance Team Fundamentals. If you have a working knowledge of the property and casualty insurance industry and experience with data privacy and cybersecurity regulations and corporate compliance, we encourage you to apply. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by conducting data privacy impact assessments and other risk assessments, developing data privacy training programs, and managing incident response plans. You will also assist in maintaining our vendor contract database and negotiating vendor agreements to the benefit of the company.

To be successful in this role, you must have a Juris Doctorate (or equivalent) degree and be admitted to the bar in one state. You should also have 3-5 years of experience in a corporate law/compliance department setting or law firm. This is a full-time position with a minimum of 35 hours per week, but you must be willing and able to work additional hours as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide advice, guidance, and direction on legal and compliance matters related to data privacy and cybersecurity regulations
- Act as a liaison between the Legal & Compliance Team and the Information Technology Team to proactively respond to changing regulatory landscape on information storage and use
- Learn about the property and casualty insurance business and our company culture and business model
- Thoroughly understand state and foreign data privacy and cybersecurity regulations and advise and direct our response and compliance program
- Conduct data privacy impact assessments and other risk assessments
- Assist in the development of data privacy training programs and manage incident response plans
- Collaborate with third-party vendors and service providers to ensure compliance with contractual obligations related to data privacy
- Create and maintain vendor contract database
- Negotiate vendor agreements and relationships to the benefit of the company
- Assist business teams in selecting and engaging vendors to facilitate their initiatives and maintain compliance
- Provide general legal support to Legal & Compliance Team and community as needed with the potential for growth into a generalist legal role
- Handle special projects and tasks as assigned
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy in the handling of matters as appropriate

Preferred Qualifications:

- Working knowledge of the property and casualty insurance industry
- Experience with data privacy and cybersecurity regulation and corporate compliance
- Security/Privacy Certification (., CIPP, CIPM, CIPT)

Education:
