Civil Rights Paralegal Duties: The candidate will be corresponding with potential clients and organizing follow-ups, submitting public records requests, reviewing claims and evidence, and drafting memoranda with recommendations for attorneys. Obtaining medical bills and records and corresponding with Medicare/Medicaid agencies regarding liens. Drafting and reviewing emails, letters, and legal documents including complaints, motions, and subpoenas. Assisting attorneys during discovery: reviewing information and documentation provided by opposing parties, working with our clients to answer interrogatories and requests for production, and preparing documents for production to opposing counsel. Drafting settlement documents from templates and facilitating the settlement process. Completing general case management tasks: client communications, scheduling depositions, and court reporters noticing up motions before the court and corresponding with court clerks. Manage firm calendar/ scheduling. Keeping track of the firm's caseload, particularly potential cases and settled cases. Generating and reviewing invoices and issuing them to our non-contingency clients. Creating posts for 's social media and website. Provide basic technical support for attorneys as necessary. Answering incoming phone calls and direct callers to the relevant attorneys.
Qualifications: The candidate should have a college graduate with a strong interest in the legal profession and civil rights litigation with the ability to commit to the position for at least two years. Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary with the ability to interact professionally with staff, attorneys, legal assistants, clients, and vendors. Must be able to work independently as well as with a team, have an acute attention to detail, and have the ability to multi-task and prioritize while working in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment. A college degree, prior paralegal/ legal assistant experience, and/or a paralegal certificate are a plus. Strong technical skills are required, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat; knowledge of Clio, Lexis Nexis, WordPress, and/or Canva is a plus.
