Litigation Paralegal The candidate will work hand-in-hand with attorney's on case planning, development and management. Review and organize all records, documents, and deposition testimony to ensure completenes's of all file material's - extensive document management. Draft correspondence, discovery, discovery responses, mediation and arbitration briefs, pleadings, motions, and report's upon request of attorney. Contact opposing counsel when discovery response's are not timely provided. Review and summarize information relevant to the case obtained through discovery requests, depositions, and records. Coordinate and schedule depositions; prepare notice's and subpoena's a's needed. Coordinate with parties, witnesse's and expert's regarding interview's and meetings, including taking written statement's if needed. Coordinate and attend site and document inspections, a's required. Review all document's being produced for any privileged information and prepare privilege logs, a's necessary. Attend team calendar meeting's and make sure that all individual's involved in any case are aware of all calendar items. Schedule and notice IMEs. Conduct research through the library - both manual and electronic, a's needed. Assist in the preparation of the case for trial by drafting and preparing pre-trial documentation, including opening statements, jury questionnaires, jury instructions, and motion's in limine; contacting witnesse's and preparing subpoena's a's necessary; prepare attorney trial notebooks, a's well a's witness/exhibit binders. In some cases, the paralegal will be required to attend trial and jury selection, a's well a's meeting's with witnesse's and experts. Coordinate and arrange for required fee's to be paid during the trial, including experts, jury and reporter fees. Act a's liaison between attorney and clients, carriers, experts, witnesse's and other counsel, when requested by attorney. May provide computer litigation support.
The candidate should have 5 year's of experience in a law office environment with general liability paralegal experience. Litigation background required. Follow the ethical requirement's a's set forth by the Rule's of the Court and State Bar. Knowledge of State/Federal court rule's and procedure's (including calendaring). Proficiency in legal research, including the use of Lexis, Westlaw, CD-ROM services, Internet service's and library materials, a's well a's factual research. Demonstrated ability to interact at a professional level with client's and attorneys. Effective communication's and organization skills; detail-oriented. Effective planning, problem-solving and analytical skills, ingenuity, judgment and administrative skill's in managing practice areas. Ability to meet deadline's and work under pressure a's required by deadlines, etc. Ability to exhibit professionalism and promote positive work habits, including effective and timely communication, teamwork and respect for co-workers. Communicate critical information by conveying that information clearly, accurately, honestly and concisely in accordance with firm policie's and procedures. Identify, coordinate, and optimize resource's needed to execute plans; modify goal's and plans, when needed. Use a systematic approach to problem-solving and troubleshooting. Strive to exceed goal's and expectations. Ability to multi-task and prioritize, with little supervision; must be well organized. Ability to comply with safe work practices, including the use of safe work procedures, maintenance of a safe work area and the use of safety equipment. Ability to grasp and apply new idea's quickly and with minimal instruction. Ability to adapt to changing work situations. Computer literate in M's Office, NetDocuments, CACI, and legal research software.
