Overview:
- The Colorado Department of Law is seeking Fellows who are interested in beginning their career in public service and have a passion for cybersecurity.
- Fellows will have the opportunity to work in one of two Sections: Consumer Protection or State Services, with job duties specific to their Section.
- Fellows will have opportunities to engage with other Fellows and attend trainings throughout the Department of Law designed for newer attorneys.
- Fellows may also assist with projects related to data privacy, data management, intellectual property, research of novel legal issues, and legislative changes to federal and state law.
- Fellows may participate in various working groups addressing critical technology issues and their potential impacts on state agencies.
- Fellows will also work with other attorneys to advise the Attorney General on data privacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other technology issues.
Responsibilities:
- Work in either the Consumer Protection or State Services Section, with job duties specific to their Section.
- Assist with projects related to data privacy, data management, intellectual property, research of novel legal issues, and legislative changes to federal and state law.
- Participate in various working groups addressing critical technology issues and their potential impacts on state agencies.
- Work with other attorneys to advise the Attorney General on data privacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other technology issues.
- Attend trainings and events throughout the Department of Law designed for newer attorneys.
Qualifications:
- Recent law school graduates or those graduating by Spring 2025.
- Strong writing skills.
- Intellectual curiosity and passion for public service.
- Confidence and ability to ask good and thoughtful questions.
- Strong academic record (., a strong GPA or show a steady improvement of grades during law school).
- Admitted to practice law in Colorado by the first day of employment.
Application Materials:
- Cover letter highlighting commitment to public service, experience in the subject matter area, and how background and experience would add value in the Fellowship.
- Resume including bar memberships, leadership experience, community service or volunteer experience, status of application for bar membership, and cumulative law school GPA.
- Law school transcript.
- Three references (not letters of recommendation) from individuals who are familiar with work and abilities.
- Writing sample that demonstrates legal analysis and abilities.
Timeline:
- Applications open in August 2024 for positions starting in November 2025.
- Interviews are anticipated to be completed between October and December.
- Offer of employment for the Fellowship program to successful candidates will be made in late December or by the end of January.
