In the spring of 2025, the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is seeking a law student extern to support their housing portfolio. This position, located in Washington ., will require the extern to commit 12-15 hours per week during the semester. The extern will work on issues of gender, racial, and disability justice in housing programs and policies, utilizing a variety of advocacy tools and strategies. The extern will also have the opportunity to collaborate with the larger Income Security and Child Care/Early Learning team, which includes both attorneys and non-attorneys.

Salary Information:
- This externship is unpaid, but academic credit can be obtained.
- A stipend of $175 per month will be provided.
- This position is not eligible for benefits.

Experience Information:
- Law students who have completed at least one year of a JD program are eligible to apply.
- Applicants should have experience working on gender justice issues with an intersectional lens and a strong interest in housing and broader economic issues.
- Experience in a research, advocacy, or policymaking environment is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support advancing gender, racial, and disability justice in housing programs and policies
- Use a range of advocacy tools and strategies such as researching and writing policy materials
- Track legislation at various levels of government and attend Congressional proceedings and policy briefings
- Support the preparation of NWLC products such as factsheets, issue briefs, reports, and comments on proposed federal agency regulations
- Build support for gender justice organizations to engage in housing policy
- Establish and nurture connections between housing work and other issues affecting women
Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in a JD program with completion of at least one year
- Ability to receive academic credit for the externship
- Strong research and writing skills
- Experience working on gender justice issues with an intersectional lens
- Interest in housing and broader economic issues
- Experience in a research, advocacy, or policymaking environment preferred
- Flexibility, creativity, and initiative
- Commitment to the mission of the Center
Key Relations:
- Report to the Director of Housing Justice and work under the supervision of a housing legal fellow
- Collaborate with the larger Income Security and Child Care/Early Learning team
