The Senior Manager - SALT Sales and Use Tax position at RSM is a full-time role available in San Francisco and San Jose. The job requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. The ideal candidate will also have a CPA, CMI, JD, or LLM qualification and at least eight years of experience providing sales and use tax consulting services in a public accounting, consulting, or law firm. The salary range for this position is $137,700 to $276,700 per year, with the potential for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager to join our State and Local Sales and Use Tax team and provide valuable advice to our clients on solving their most pressing sales tax issues.

The Senior Manager will have three core responsibilities: technical and quality expertise, people and talent management, and client service/business development. They will spend approximately 60% of their time providing excellent sales and use tax advisory and planning services to multi-state companies, 30% of their time on business development for the tax practice, and 10% of their time as a Performance Advisor, mentor, or coach to other employees.

Key duties and responsibilities for the Senior Manager - SALT Sales and Use Tax position include:

- Providing sales and use tax advisory and planning services to multi-state companies
- Business development for the State and Local tax practice, including generating new revenue, cross-selling, and developing new client relationships
- Serving as a Performance Advisor, mentor, or coach to other employees
- Integrating with clients, local and regional RSM SALT teams, the overall RSM tax team, and RSM audit and consulting colleagues
- Managing various sales and use tax consulting projects, including technical research, nexus studies, exposure quantification, voluntary disclosures, audit defense and appeals, reverse sales tax audits and refunds, ASC 450 reviews, due diligence, and other state tax consulting projects
- Leading and managing complex engagements with a focus on high-value, quality tax advice and seeking to expand services to clients

To be successful in this role, the Senior Manager - SALT Sales and Use Tax should have the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field from an accredited college or university
- CPA, CMI, JD, or LLM qualification
- Minimum of eight years of experience providing sales and use tax consulting services in a public accounting, consulting, or law firm
- Thorough knowledge of state and local sales and use tax laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, as well as tax planning, restructuring, due diligence, audit defense, reverse audits, and state controversy work
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to travel up to 25%
