The Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, Juvenile Division, is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the role of Magistrate (Custody and Support). This position falls under the Judicial Division and reports directly to the Chief Magistrate. The salary grade for this position is 19, with a salary of $91,. The successful candidate will be responsible for efficiently managing a high-volume docket in parent-child relationship (paternity), private custody, and child support matters. They must possess the ability to administer justice fairly and impartially, adhering to the requirements of the Ohio Revised Code. The specific docket and case type(s) may change based on the needs of the Court. The Magistrate (Custody and Support) will also have the opportunity to attend Continuing Legal Education programs as mandated by the Ohio Supreme Court and participate in training sessions and seminars.

Key Responsibilities:

• Efficiently manage a high-volume docket in parent-child relationship (paternity), private custody, and child support matters.
• Work with pro se litigants, advising them of their rights and adjudicating and disposing of pending cases in a timely manner.
• Administer justice fairly and impartially, adhering to the requirements of the Ohio Revised Code.
• Prepare findings of fact, recommendations, and other legal documents for judicial review and approval.
• Attend Continuing Legal Education programs as mandated by the Ohio Supreme Court.
• Conduct legal research, participate in training sessions and seminars, and prepare statistical reports.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor Degree.
• Four (4) years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably in a court setting.
• Must be admitted to the practice of law by the Supreme Court in the State of Ohio.
• Knowledge of pertinent sections of the Ohio Revised Code and the Juvenile and Civil Rules of Procedure, the Ohio Rules of Evidence, and the Rules of Superintendence for the Courts of Ohio.
• Familiarity with community resources and dispositional alternatives.
• Ability to communicate effectively and courteously, both orally and in writing.
• Proficiency in using the Juvenile Court’s iCase Case Management system.
