Summary:
The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is seeking an entry level Assistant State's Attorney with 1-5 years of experience in the Criminal Division. The position is responsible for prosecuting under the Criminal Code of the State of Illinois and handling misdemeanor and traffic cases, as well as working with law enforcement agencies and representing the People of the State of Illinois in hearings and trials. The ideal candidate will have a law degree and 1 or more years of criminal law experience, with excellent legal research and writing abilities. They must also possess a solid work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The salary for this position is $88,434 and the application deadline is rolling.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prosecuting under the Criminal Code of the State of Illinois
- Managing misdemeanor and traffic caseloads
- Handling preliminary hearings, grand jury indictments, and bond hearings
- Working closely with multiple law enforcement agencies
- Representing the People of the State of Illinois in hearings and trials
- Effectively communicating the mission and values of the CCSAO to the community
- Preparing misdemeanor and traffic cases for disposition
- Litigating motions, petitions, bench and jury trials
- Working with witnesses and victims to prepare for testimony
Minimum Qualifications:
- Law degree (.) from an accredited law school
- Member in good standing with the Illinois bar or eligible for admission on Motion (reciprocity)
- 1 or more years of criminal law experience
- Excellent legal research and writing abilities
- Ability to articulate sound legal arguments both orally and in writing
- Solid work ethic and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 or more years of criminal practice
- 1-2 years of prosecutorial practice
- 1-2 years trial experience at the misdemeanor or felony level
Working Environment:
- Assigned to cover geographical areas in Cook County
- Prosecuting under the Criminal Code of the State of Illinois
- Managing misdemeanor and traffic caseloads
- Working closely with multiple law enforcement agencies
- Representing the People of the State of Illinois in hearings and trials
- Must be able to work well with people from diverse communities, work independently, and have excellent time management skills
Physical Requirements:
- Light work, involving lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time and frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds
- Must have the ability to do substantially all activities related to light work
