Job Title: Assistant City Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and counsel to the Dallas City Council, city manager, city secretary, and various city departments.
- Negotiate and draft contracts for the procurement of goods and services, housing and economic development incentives, tax abatements, and grants and loans.
- Write legal opinions and draft resolutions, ordinances, memoranda, and correspondence.
- Analyze and advise on claims and disputes, open meetings, and other general legal advice, with a focus on multi-family housing and affordable housing development.
- Handle loan transactions using low-income housing tax credits, tax-exempt bonds, or federal and state funding.
- Collaborate closely with city staff to support the Dallas City Council and its boards and commissions, special districts, and local government instrumentalities.
- Occasionally work with and advise litigators on matters, though the position does not involve litigation as a primary responsibility.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- Applicants must be licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required.
- Experience in municipal law, commercial or residential real estate development, affordable housing finance, government contracting, and/or procurement is considered a plus.
