As a law student intern at DCVLP, you will have the opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of low-income residents in Washington, . by providing them with much-needed legal assistance. This is a paid internship that requires a commitment of 15-20 hours per week, with the option to work full time. The internship is open to law school students or recent graduates who are passionate about social justice and have a strong desire to gain practical legal experience.

Responsibilities:

- Draft legal memos and conduct legal research to support ongoing cases
- Prepare legal documents, such as pleadings and briefs, for asylum cases
- Assist with work permit applications and provide direct representation to clients
- Create pro se materials to help clients represent themselves in court
- Draft country conditions reports for asylum applications
- Develop training materials for volunteer attorneys representing U visa, SIJS, or VAWA clients
- Collect client information in a legal clinic setting

Requirements:

- Currently enrolled in law school or recent law school graduate
- Commitment to social justice and helping low-income individuals
- Strong research and writing skills
- Spanish proficiency highly preferred
