Director, Legal Counsel - Remote Position with Competitive Salary and Benefits

Overview:

The ASPCA is a leading animal welfare organization that works towards the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States. The organization is currently seeking a Director, Legal Counsel to join their Legal Department. This remote-based position will require travel and is open to eligible candidates located within the United States. The Director, Legal Counsel will work closely with the Senior Director, Corporate Counsel, Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, and other members of the Legal Department to provide legal advice and guidance on contracts, labor and employment, litigation, and strategic project management for specific internal ASPCA clients.

Responsibilities:

- Advise and counsel on a variety of legal matters in close partnership with counterparts across the organization
- Manage operational risk and ensure compliance with laws and internal policies
- Draft, review, and negotiate various corporate contracts and other legal documents
- Provide guidance on labor and employment issues in coordination with the ASPCA's People Team (HR)
- Conduct research and analysis on diverse legal issues
- Counsel internal clients on risk management and strategic program development
- Educate staff on legal issues through training sessions
- Liaise with other attorneys and outside counsel as needed
- Draft regular internal reports
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

- . degree from an ABA accredited law school
- Admitted to practice law or licensed as authorized in-house counsel in at least one jurisdiction where the ASPCA has a key program group
- At least 4 years of prior law firm or comparable experience, in-house corporate experience preferred
- Experience with IT-related contracts and contract provisions strongly preferred
- Experience in data privacy security laws, intellectual property, litigation, general corporate or nonprofit practice, or nonprofit development or finance a plus

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

- Strong contract drafting experience
- Knowledge of relevant areas of nonprofit corporate law

Compensation and Benefits:

The ASPCA offers competitive salaries and benefits for their employees. The applicable target hiring range for this remote role will vary based on the employee's primary location of residence. The expected hiring salary ranges for this role are:

- Zone 1: $128,000-$135,000
- Zone 2: $138,000-$145,000
- Zone 3: $148,000-$156,000
