Paralegal, California Insurance Defense The candidate proactively monitors status of pending cases and communicates with attorneys as to case status and suggested actions to move cases forward to conclusion. Drafts, reviews and edits legal documents (pleadings, motions, notices, discovery, responses to discovery, etc.) and correspondence. Reviews and analyzes information, including medical records, provided by clients, client representatives, other parties and their counsel, and medical providers. Inputs information regarding parties, case status and assigned tasks into case management software. Monitors and assists with maintenance of case calendar by scheduling matter events, coordinating with counsel, and generating status reports to keep attorneys updated with matter status. Answers questions and supplies detailed information both in person and on the phone. Assists attorneys with preparation for and during trials, arbitration proceedings, administrative hearings, etc., by preparing the key document and issue binders, organizing, assembling, marking and maintaining documents for exhibits, scheduling witnesses for testimony and performing other, similar tasks. Receives and processes a variety of requests for information, registrations, actions, forms, orders, notices, and/or other related information. Follows through on client needs through coordination of services. Assists with engagement and consultation with expert witnesses. Performs a variety of clerical activities and other duties as assigned.
The candidate should have an associate's degree in a related field (such as legal assisting, law enforcement, or human services). Should have 5 years of related experience in California Superior Courts. Experience in any one or more of the following additional state courts is a plus: Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois, or Wisconsin. Strong background in analyzing and summarizing medical records required. Interpersonal skills are necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with clients, co-workers, and representatives of other agencies. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate over the phone. Must be a highly motivated self-starter with excellent research, analytical and above-average computer skills and knowledge.
