Overview:
The Attorney IV position at the **** is a highly sought-after role for experienced attorneys. This position offers the opportunity to work in the Enforcement Department, which is one of seven departments within the Legal Services Division. The attorney in this role will provide legal support for HHS sanctions against facilities, programs, and services, and will also represent HHSC in contested cases before the State Office of Administrative Hearings and the Health and Human Services Commission Appeals Division. This position is also eligible for telework up to five days per week, providing a flexible work environment.

Responsibilities:
• Provide legal representation, consultation, and support to program areas within the Health and Human Services system
• Consult with program staff on complex legal issues and provide training and guidance
• Research and brief relevant legal issues
• Review policies, rules, regulations, and forms for compliance with legal standards
• Manage a busy docket of cases and prepare for trial
• Independently represent clients at hearings governed by the Administrative Procedures Act
• Analyze evidence, prepare case strategies, and conduct depositions
• Communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences both verbally and in writing

Qualifications:
• JD or LLB degree from an accredited law school
• Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Texas
• At least two years of experience in the practice of law
• Experience in administrative law preferred
• Skilled in legal research, writing, and analysis
• Ability to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
• Demonstrates sound judgment and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of the Administrative Procedures Act and civil trial practice
• Ability to work collaboratively with clients, government employees, and stakeholder groups
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to analyze complex legal issues and use computer applications related to job functions

Additional Information:
• Experience in civil trials and administrative hearings under the Administrative Procedure Act is preferred
