MTA Construction & Development is seeking a skilled and experienced Assistant General Counsel to join their team in New York, NY. As the Assistant General Counsel, you will report to the Senior Vice President & Deputy General Counsel and be responsible for providing legal counsel, contract management, procurement, risk management, and policy advice to MTA C&D executives and management. This role will handle a broad range of issues touching every department within the agency, including construction, real estate, procurement, human resources, program controls, intellectual property, media, and environmental issues.
The primary responsibilities of this position include providing in-house legal counsel and business strategies for all activities affecting the agency, drafting and reviewing multi-million construction contracts and design and professional services contracts, analyzing construction design plans and specifications, and representing MTA C&D in dispute resolution proceedings. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to negotiate contract changes, develop and implement compliance training programs, and represent the agency in special assignments as requested by the General Counsel.
To qualify for this position, candidates must have a Law Degree (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the Bar of the State of New York. A minimum of one (1) year of legal experience in a law firm, governmental legal office, or in-house legal department is required, and some background or education in engineering, construction, or architecture is preferred. Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, writing, and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
