Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant District Attorney (ADA) positions within the organization encompass various units, including City Court, County Court, Grand Jury, and Major Crimes Units. The primary responsibilities of the ADA include:
- Representing the state in criminal prosecutions in City Court and potentially other courts as needed.
- Preparing and presenting cases at trial, including examining witnesses, presenting evidence, and making legal arguments.
- Engaging in plea negotiations, pre-trial motions, and hearings.
- Collaborating with law enforcement agencies during investigations and case preparations.
- Advising law enforcement officials on legal procedures and case strategies.
- Conducting legal research and writing on matters pertaining to criminal prosecutions.
- Managing a caseload efficiently, ensuring timely and effective case resolutions.
- Engaging in appellate work if necessary, including drafting and arguing appeals.
- Participating in community outreach and public education regarding the criminal justice system.
Education and Experience Information:
- Entry-level candidates must be in their third year of law school and intending to seek admission to the New York State Bar.
- Experienced attorneys are preferred to have litigation or appellate experience, ideally in criminal prosecution or defense.
- Experience levels are categorized as follows:
- ADA I: 0-1 years of experience
- ADA II: 1-3 years of experience
- ADA III: 4-5 years of experience
- ADA IV: 6-7 years of experience
- ADA V: 8-9 years of experience
- ADA VI: 10+ years of experience
Salary Information:
The current salary structure for the Assistant District Attorney positions is as follows:
- ADA I (0-1 years): $80,000
- ADA II (1-3 years): $90,000
- ADA III (4-5 years): $98,000
- ADA IV (6-7 years): $108,000
- ADA V (8-9 years): $117,000
- ADA VI (10+ years): $125,000
