We are seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel to join our team and provide legal support to our internal clients. This position is available in four different locations, including Charlotte, North Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia; Richmond, Virginia; and Washington, District of Columbia.

Job Description:
As an Associate General Counsel, you will maintain strong, productive relationships with key internal clients while serving as a trusted legal advisor, legal risk manager, and business partner. You will also serve as a technical expert in particular area(s) of specialization. Your responsibilities will include assessing legal risk, providing legal advice, and/or assisting in resolving legal problems which may represent potential exposure to the company. You will also keep abreast of legislation, regulations, and case law developments that affect the company and the banking industry in your area of practice. Additionally, you may prepare and/or review documents and other instruments, represent the company in transactions, litigation, bankruptcy matters, or alternative dispute resolutions (as applicable), perform legal research and analysis, maintain files and records, and identify the need for and engage outside counsel when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide significant internal client legal support day to day
- Assess legal risk, provide legal advice, and/or assist in resolving legal problems
- Keep abreast of legislation, regulations, and case law developments
- Prepare and/or review documents and other instruments
- Represent the company in transactions, litigation, and alternative dispute resolutions
- Identify and engage outside counsel when necessary
- Serve as an individual contributor and provide ad hoc work direction and supervision to other legal staff
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and licensed to practice law in good standing
- Eight years of post-bar experience in a law firm, government, and/or corporate settings
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize matters and utilize time management skills
- Ability to handle a heavy workload, manage stress effectively, and meet critical deadlines
- Able to work autonomously without close supervision
- Team-oriented mentality and excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience or related training in the financial services industry or a related legal specialty
- Experience in a corporate legal department with positions of advancing responsibility
- Educational focus on business or finance
- Comfortable working in the entrepreneurial environment of a large, complex corporation
