Essential Functions:
- Confirm coverage by reviewing first notice of loss, checking available systems, and interpreting policy language
- Prepare initial position letters to policyholder, such as disclaimers and reservation of rights, after coverage analysis
- Conduct thorough investigation of claim, including securing facts, statements, documents, and identifying joint tortfeasors and witnesses
- Post, review, and maintain initial reserves based on liability and damage evaluation
- Proactively manage file through effective diary, direction to defense counsel and independent adjusters, and analysis and strategy leading to negotiated settlement or trial
- Communicate effectively with underwriting, compliance, and actuarial teams while claim is pending

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support customer service by responding to phone and email inquiries in a timely manner
- Complete special projects as assigned
- Enroll in continuing education to maintain state licenses and support professional and personal development
- Attend mediations and mandatory court hearings as needed

- Technical knowledge of insurance coverage, negligence law, and claim evaluation

Minimum Job Requirements:
- 2+ years (Associate Claims Examiner) or 7+ years (Claims Examiner) of relevant experience in handling general liability/casualty/excess matters
- Previous experience as an examiner, adjuster, paralegal, or other transferable role
- Personal lines experience, multi-jurisdictional knowledge, advanced degrees, or JD are a plus
