The Governor's Summer Intern - IDR Legal Services is a seasonal position offered by the State of Indiana. The position is open to law students or recent law school graduates and offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in disability rights advocacy. The intern will work with attorneys and advocates on active individual advocacy cases, research legal and policy issues, and attend meetings and committees related to disability policy. The hourly rate for this position is for those without a bachelor's degree and for those with a bachelor's degree or higher. This position is located in Indianapolis, IN at the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.' (IDR) central office.
The Governor's Summer Internship Program (GSI) is a program offered by the State of Indiana that provides college students with real-world experience in their desired field of study. The program offers students the opportunity to network with state employees, attend workshops and panels, and work on a major project related to their academic area of study.
IDR's mission is to uphold, promote, and advance the rights of individuals with disabilities through empowerment and advocacy. The intern will report to an attorney and support multiple attorneys, based on their interests and team needs. The intern will also have the chance to work with other state agencies to promote and enhance the quality of projects.
The intern will gain valuable hands-on experience in communicating with clients, researching legal and policy issues, drafting legal documents, and conducting disability policy research. They will also attend and participate in various meetings and mentoring sessions with IDR staff and disability leaders. Applicants must be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an accredited law school and have completed at least one year of legal education. Applicants with lived disability experience are preferred.
