The Appellate Division, Fourth Judicial Department in the State of New York is currently seeking two (2) qualified candidates for positions in the Attorney series. These positions offer a base salary of $82,198 and require admission to the New York State Bar. The selected candidates may be placed in either of the following titles, depending on their qualifications: Attorney JG: 23 or Attorney JG: 23 (Mental Hygiene Legal Services). Job Summary:
- Provide legal research and advocacy services in the Mental Hygiene Legal Services, attorney disciplinary committees, 18B panel administration, or other such units
- Represent mentally ill, developmentally disabled, and prisoners facing civil commitment
- Prepare cases for administrative proceedings and litigation in courts
- Research and analyze legal questions and issues
- Interview litigants, witnesses, and other parties involved in administrative and judicial proceedings
- Draft confidential reports, memoranda, legal papers, and briefs
- Extensive travel without reliance on public carriers may be necessary
