The Child Services Attorney position requires a Doctorate of Jurisprudence and admission to the Indiana Bar with a license in good standing. Strong legal research, writing, and litigation skills are also necessary, as well as the ability to apply relevant statutes, case law, and rules. The role may also involve supervisory responsibilities depending on agency needs.

In this role, you will provide legal advice and services to the Central Office, County Offices, and staff for juvenile law related to Child Welfare, Child Support, and personnel matters. You will also assist and represent DCS in court and administrative issues, such as Child In Need of Services (CHINS) cases, Termination of Parental Rights (TPR), Adoptions, Foster Care Licensing Actions, and other child safety issues. Additionally, you will work closely with Family Case Managers and may serve as legal counsel for internal employment issues.

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,, but may be commensurate with education or work experience. The position is exempt from overtime compensation and may require additional work hours to complete essential functions. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, hours per week.

As a Child Services Attorney, your responsibilities will include advising DCS staff, drafting and reviewing contracts and correspondence, serving as a liaison to the Attorney General, conducting legal research and writing assignments, and handling administrative matters and hearings. You will also litigate cases in State Court, organize and manage caseloads, and delegate tasks to legal support staff.
