Job Responsibilities:
The position of Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) within the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas involves prosecuting a wide array of federal criminal violations. These include cases related to organized crime, financial litigation, immigration, narcotics, firearms, public corruption, asset forfeiture, and white-collar crime. As an AUSA, the role is integral to enforcing federal law, defending . interests, seeking just punishment for offenders, and ensuring impartial justice. The job demands frequent courtroom appearances and offers a fast-paced and challenging workload. As AUSAs gain more experience, their responsibilities and the complexity of their cases will increase.

Education and Experience Information:
Applicants must possess a Juris Doctor (.) degree and be an active member of the bar in any . jurisdiction. A minimum of one year of . legal or relevant experience is required. Preferred qualifications include strong academic credentials, superior legal research and writing skills, quick analytical abilities, substantial courtroom experience, and a demonstrated commitment to professionalism and public service. First-chair jury trial experience is advantageous, and candidates should be proficient in legal research and self-sufficient in preparing legal documents. Experience in grand jury practice and investigative and prosecution techniques is also desirable.

Salary Information:
The salary for the Assistant United States Attorney position is determined administratively and is based partly on years of professional attorney experience. The basic pay range is from $85,270 to $130,000, which includes a locality pay adjustment of %.
