Job Description:
- LegalHealth, a division of NYLAG, is seeking a Staff Attorney to join their Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP).
- Partners with medical professionals in 38 hospitals throughout New York to address the health harming legal needs of low-income individuals.
- Complements healthcare with legal care by providing free legal services in medical facilities and training healthcare professionals.
- Uses a holistic approach to address Social Determinants of Health.
- Practice as generalists, representing clients on a range of legal matters connected to a diagnosis or chronic health condition.
- Plays a leadership role in the expanding MLP movement.
- Reports to a supervising attorney.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Staff two weekly legal clinics at hospital partner sites.
- Provide legal services in areas such as benefits, housing, employment, immigration, and advance planning.
- Train medical staff on legal issues and advocacy.
- In-person legal clinic at a hospital 2 days per week and fulfill hospital clearance requirements.
Qualifications:
- Admitted to practice law in New York.
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience, preferably in healthcare or with vulnerable populations.
- Excellent communication, research, and writing skills.
- Empathy and problem-solving abilities are critical.
- Spanish-speaking preferred.
