### Job Responsibilities
Law clerks in the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. are responsible for a variety of tasks that provide substantial exposure to the legal process and court administration. Responsibilities vary depending on the court division but generally include:

- **Supreme Court Law Clerks**: Work with justices on complex cases involving challenging legal issues, performing legal research, preparing written memoranda on novel issues of law, and assisting in the preparation of opinions.
- **Appellate Division Law Clerks**: Conduct research, analyze legal data, prepare legal memoranda, process emergent motion applications, and proofread published opinions. Responsibilities also include preparing weekly memos, editing opinions, handling emergent applications, and assisting with additional research projects.
- **Superior Court Law Clerks**: Gain practical experience by observing judicial proceedings, attending conferences with attorneys and judges, receiving mediation training, and mediating small claims cases. They also summarize information for judges.
- **Tax Court Law Clerks**: Perform duties similar to those in the Appellate Division and trial courts but do not mediate cases. They manage motion calendars, conduct legal research, and assist with remote proceedings.
- **Assignment Judge Law Clerks**: Learn all aspects of court administration and assist with processing emergent motions.
- **Family Division Law Clerks**: Handle legal research, assist with remote proceedings, draft legal opinions and orders, manage adjournment requests, and handle emergent applications.
- **Civil Division Law Clerks**: Prepare bench memoranda, perform legal research, draft legal orders, manage the motion calendar, and communicate with various stakeholders.
- **Criminal Division Law Clerks**: Conduct legal research for opinions and motions, draft jury instructions and legal opinions, manage the motion calendar, and assist with case management functions.
- **General Equity (Chancery) Law Clerks**: Conduct legal research, review case files, prepare bench memoranda, draft orders, and assist in processing emergent temporary restraining order applications.

### Education and Experience Information
- **Education**: Candidates must have graduated from a law school approved by the American Bar Association by the time of their law clerk appointment. The program is intended for recent law school graduates, defined as those graduating within the last four years.
- **Experience**: While prior experience is not mandatory, excellent writing and analytical skills are essential. It is beneficial for candidates to have completed a course in mediation prior to starting the clerkship. Selected candidates must provide an official, final law school transcript at the time of hire.
- **Additional Requirements**: Clerks may hold outside employment with prior approval as per the Code of Conduct for Judiciary Employees. A valid New Jersey driver’s license is required only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary for performing essential duties. Authorization to work in the . is required, but . citizenship is not mandatory.

### Additional Information
- **Remote Work**: The Judiciary offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing up to four days per month of remote work. Participants must have high-speed internet access and install a multifactor authentication app.
