Organization Overview:
- **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (LAE) has been providing free legal advice and representation to San Francisco's seniors and adults with disabilities for over 40 years.
- Our primary practice areas include Eviction Defense/Housing Preservation, Income Support, Health Law, Financial and Physical Elder Abuse Prevention, Debt Collection Defense, Foreclosure Prevention, End of Life Planning, and Conservatorship Defense.

Job Description:
- Provide litigation and programmatic support to the Housing Team.
- Work with a team of experienced attorneys to represent clients throughout their cases, including intake, pre-trial motions, discovery, and trial.
- Conduct legal research and factual investigations.
- Draft correspondence and other legal documents.
- File documents via e-filing and in person at SF Superior Court.
- Ensure service of legal documents and correspondence.
- Assist in responding to and propounding discovery.
- Prepare pleadings, ex parte applications, motions, and other necessary documents under attorney supervision.
- Provide deposition and trial support.
- Train and supervise volunteers and interns.
- Attend regular skills-based training sessions.
- Conduct intake interviews with new clients and obtain necessary documentation.
- Follow-up with clients and maintain accurate client files.
- Manage data entry for program evaluation and outcomes tracking.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certificate preferred; minimum associate degree required.
- Administrative experience, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and other common computer programs.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interviewing skills.
- Highly organized, motivated, and creative problem-solver.
- Able to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Patient, flexible, and kind.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless exempt for medical or religious reasons.

Desired Qualifications:
- Fluency in English and Cantonese, Mandarin, or Spanish.
- 2+ years of experience as a paralegal.
- Knowledge of landlord-tenant law.
- Knowledge of legal issues related to poverty and/or aging.
- Experience working with elderly, disabled, or homeless individuals.
- Experience with Salesforce.

Working Conditions:
- Position requires working with individuals during moments of extreme stress and instability.
- Some evening and weekend work may be required.
- After a probationary period, some work from home may be permitted.
- Union membership becomes a condition of employment after successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.

Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive salary based on experience (starting at $69,000 to $79,000).
- Salary stipend for fluency in a second language regularly used in LAE's legal practice.
- Additional stipend after two years of employment.
