Job Description:

As Counsel, you will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and building strong relationships with team members and business leaders at all levels. Your role will involve identifying and assessing risks, recommending risk management strategies, and actively participating in decision-making processes. You will also have the opportunity to lead complex and strategic matters, mentor less experienced attorneys, and build a wide network of positive relationships within the company and with external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide expert legal advice and build strong relationships with team members and business leaders
- Identify and assess risks in unique or complex business situations and create risk management recommendations
- Address high-risk situations and understand the company's risk tolerance
- Build creative, practical, and effective solutions to issues with no established precedent
- Interact with external partners on behalf of the company
- Lead complex and strategic negotiations
- Mentor less experienced attorneys or paralegals
- Build and maintain a wide network of positive relationships within the company and with external partners
- Work independently and lead teams on group/client tasks, projects, or assignments

Qualifications:

- JD from an American Bar Association-accredited law school
- Fully licensed in accordance with OCLO policy, in good standing, and in compliance with all continuing legal education requirements in state(s) of practice
- 6+ years of relevant legal experience with demonstrated business knowledge
- In-depth legal and regulatory knowledge of personal lines insurance

Desirable Knowledge and Experience:

- Proficiency in drafting, amending, and interpreting contracts
- Ability to evaluate and provide advice on permissible versus prohibited conduct or content in sales and marketing
- Specific legal or regulatory knowledge related to pet insurance
- Experience with and understanding of reinsurance principles and regulations
