The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Child Support Division (CSD) as Child Support Officers (CSOs) III-IV. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting investigations, establishing paternity, enforcing child support orders, and collaborating with state agencies and community organizations to serve Texas families.

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct detailed investigations to locate absent parents, verify employment, and determine assets
• Prepare legal and administrative documents to establish or enforce child support orders
• Negotiate lump sum payments and out-of-court settlements with parties
• Monitor child support cases and refer delinquent cases for enforcement actions
• Document all case actions using appropriate agency tools and maintain accurate virtual files
• Review cases for eligibility for closure
• Attend court to assist legal staff, as needed
• Research case information using computer systems
• Maintain knowledge of child support policies and procedures, Texas Family Law, federal regulations, and IV-D regulations of other states
• Explain Child Support Program policies and procedures to customers
• Respond to customer inquiries and complaints with impartiality
• Serve as Notary Public
• Perform related work as assigned
• Attend work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon schedule
• Ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive information
• Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity
Qualifications:
Child Support Officer III:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience in related fields
• Minimum 1 year of full-time experience in Child Support Program, credit collections, investigations, legal assistant, legal secretary, customer service, or IV-A eligibility specialist
• Knowledge of investigative practices and techniques
• Skill in interviewing and negotiating
• Basic mathematical and computer skills
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Sound judgment and decision-making abilities
• Willingness to receive and respond positively to feedback
• Ability to work cooperatively in a professional office environment
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work in-person at assigned OAG location, perform all assigned tasks at designated workspace, and collaborate with coworkers in-person for the entirety of the work week
• Personal transportation for business-related travel
• Flexibility to work more than 40 hours when needed and in compliance with FLSA
• Ability to lift and relocate up to 30 lbs.
• Up to 5% travel required, including overnight travel
Child Support Officer IV: All qualifications for CSO III, plus:
• Minimum 1 additional year of full-time experience as a Child Support Officer or equivalent in IV-D agency or private sector
Preferred Qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
• Knowledge of investigative practices and techniques
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish
