2025 Post-Graduate Law Fellow at Center for Disability & Elder Law (CDEL) in Chicago, Illinois (Hybrid) - Full-Time - Entry-level - Per law school funding program

CDEL is seeking a full-time post-graduate law fellow to join their team in Chicago, Illinois (Hybrid). This is an entry-level position with an expectation to take the summer 2025 Illinois bar. The fellow will assist with CDEL's estate planning, housing, and consumer law practice areas. This is a hybrid position, with the fellow working both in-office and remotely, and participating in community events. The fellowship is for a term of one year (12 months) beginning in the fall after graduation.

Responsibilities

- Provide direct legal services to clients in the areas of estate planning, housing, and consumer law
- Maintain relationships with community partners
- Conduct educational outreach presentations
- Provide training and supervision to pro bono volunteers and interns
- Manage a time-sensitive caseload along with other assigned work
- Monitor and interpret laws, rules, and ordinances
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

- Licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois
- Entry-level position/recent graduate with an expectation to take the summer 2025 Illinois bar
- Demonstrated commitment to CDEL's client base, including working with Older Adults and Persons with Disabilities
- Strong ability to communicate with multiple clients and stakeholders
- Experience with estate planning, real property, and consumer matters
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines
- Detail-oriented
- Creative and innovative approach to solving problems
- Enthusiastic about providing legal services throughout communities in and around Chicago
- Enjoys engaging with clients and other staff
- Desire to work with and mentor interns and pro bono volunteers
- Works collaboratively and communicates transparently with other staff members
- Spanish speaking and writing skills a plus

Salary and Benefits

Compensation for this position will be according to the law school funded graduate fellowship program, though additional compensation may be available to bring the candidate in line with other full-time staff. CDEL offers a comprehensive benefits package including health/dental/vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with matching, life insurance, and long-term disability insurance. CDEL also has a generous personal time off policy.

CDEL's organizational structure consists of a modest in-house staff which supports a network of hundreds of volunteer attorneys, students, and paralegals. CDEL volunteers provide legal representation in a wide range of civil practice areas including guardianship, simple estate planning, landlord/tenant, consumer debt and fraud, elder abuse, and real estate.
