Cooley, the leading technology law firm, is seeking an Associate Director of Legal Engineering to join their Practice Engineering team. The role will focus on transforming Cooley's knowledge into digitally enabled assets and creating a competitive advantage for the firm's legal practices.
H1: Position Responsibilities
H2: Knowledge Leadership and Strategy
- Collaborate with the Director of Practice Engineering to define and execute the firm's vision for digitally enabled legal services
- Identify and evaluate opportunities to deploy legal technology tools and automation solutions
- Oversee and manage initiatives to align with stakeholder requirements and technology strategy
H2: Legal Engineering and Automation
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of legal engineering projects
- Collaborate with practice groups to identify and curate legal knowledge assets
- Work closely with product development and data teams to launch automation solutions
H2: Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with other functions to drive engagement and ensure consistent presentation and collection of knowledge assets
- Oversee effective collaboration between lawyers and the team to integrate automated legal assets into practice
- Advocate for standardization while enabling customization for client needs
H2: Team Building and Mentorship
- Lead a team of knowledge management professionals and engineering experts
- Establish and maintain clear roles, responsibilities, and workflows
- Provide mentorship and career development opportunities
H1: Skills and Experience
Required:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, iManage, and other firm applications
- Ability to work extended hours and travel
- Bachelor's degree
- 8+ years of experience in knowledge management and automation roles
Preferred:
- Juris Doctorate degree
- Engineering or technical background
- Strong understanding of the legal industry
- Experience in managing cross-functional projects

H1: Salary and Benefits
The expected annual pay range for this position is $205,000 - $255,000. Cooley also offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and flexible spending accounts. Employees also receive firm-paid life insurance, AD&D, and LTD, as well as 25 days of PTO and 10 paid holidays per year. Generous parental leave and fertility benefits are also provided.
