Job Responsibilities
The Fall 2025 SEC Scholars Business Program is a volunteer opportunity at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) designed for students to engage in business operations work within a professional environment. Participants will work on projects and assignments that span various aspects of the SEC's operations, depending on the division or office to which they are assigned. Responsibilities may include supporting securities regulations and engaging in administrative duties such as human resources, contracting, and auditing. The program is full-time or part-time, with work schedules determined by the student's academic course load and the needs of the assigned division or office. Students must work a minimum of 16 hours per week.

Education and Experience Information
Eligibility for the SEC Scholars Business Program requires that applicants be current students enrolled in an accredited high school, college, or graduate institution. Students must be accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a degree or qualifying certificate program at least on a half-time basis. Additionally, applicants must possess a cumulative GPA of or higher on a scale, or the equivalent. The program specifically targets students in fields such as Accounting, Bio-Technology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Communications, Computer Science, Contracts/Purchasing, Criminal Justice, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Engineering, English, Finance, Geographic Information Systems, Government, Graphic/Web Design, History, Human Resources, Information Technology/Systems, International Affairs, Journalism, Library Sciences, Literature, Marketing, Mathematics, Political Science, Project Management, Psychology, Public Administration, Social Media, and Sociology.
Students must maintain their student status throughout the program and provide proof of enrollment. Education obtained from foreign institutions must be evaluated by a private organization for equivalency with . education standards.
Salary Information
This is a volunteer position, and as such, there is no salary or compensation provided. Under . 3111, a student volunteer is not considered a Federal employee for purposes other than injury compensation and law related to the Tort Claims Act. The position does not offer health benefits, life insurance, retirement, or long-term care insurance. Transportation subsidies to and from the duty station may be available.
