Organization Overview:

Their mission is to achieve justice for all and they prioritize the needs of marginalized and disenfranchised individuals, including those with disabilities, as they work to overcome the effects of social injustice and systemic racism. MFJ assists over 14,000 New Yorkers each year and has a staff of over 165 attorneys, paralegals, social workers, and support staff.

Responsibilities:
• Conduct client intakes and provide advice, brief services, and representation.
• Research, write, and litigate cases including pleadings, briefs, and impartial hearings.
• Participate in Individualized Education Program and other school meetings.
• Represent clients in disciplinary hearings and Manifestation Determination Reviews.
• Build and maintain medical legal partnerships with New York City hospitals.
• Coordinate with other projects to address clients' legal needs.
• Conduct community outreach and trainings.
• Foster partnerships and work in coalition with special education advocacy groups and community-based organizations in New York City.

Requirements:
• .
• Demonstrated interest in disability and/or special education law.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a diverse caseload.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
• Willingness to conduct presentations and trainings with community partners.

Preferred:
• Minimum of 3 years experience in disability and/or special education law.
• Experience working with diverse and multi-cultural populations.
• Fluency in Spanish, a Chinese dialect, or another language commonly spoken in New York City.
• Willingness to participate in policy initiatives and advocacy.
• Commitment to special education and/or disability rights, working with low-income populations, and serving New York City communities.
