Summary:
The Criminal Prosecutions Bureau of the Cook County State’s Attorney Office is seeking an entry level Assistant State’s Attorney with 1-5 years of experience in the Criminal Division. The position reports to supervisors and deputy supervisors in the bureau and is located in Chicago, IL. The salary for this position is $88,434, determined by the Chief of Staff and non-negotiable. The CCSAO does not sponsor H1-B work visa petitions.
The Assistant State’s Attorney will be responsible for prosecuting under the Criminal Code of the State of Illinois, managing misdemeanor and traffic caseloads, and handling preliminary hearings, grand jury indictments, and bond hearings. They will also work closely with law enforcement agencies and represent the People of the State of Illinois in hearings and trials. The ideal candidate will have a law degree, be a member of the Illinois bar, and have at least 1 year of criminal law experience. They should also possess excellent legal research and writing abilities, as well as the ability to articulate sound legal arguments both orally and in writing.
The Assistant State’s Attorney must have a solid work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Preferred qualifications include 3 or more years of criminal practice, 1-2 years of prosecutorial practice, and 1-2 years of trial experience at either the misdemeanor or felony level.
The Assistant State’s Attorney will be assigned to cover geographical areas within Cook County and must be able to work well with people from diverse communities. The physical requirements for this role include light work, with lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time.
