Job Title: Regional Deputy Chief Immigration Judge
Job Responsibilities:
The Regional Deputy Chief Immigration Judge serves within the Office of the Chief Immigration Judge at the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), a component of the . Department of Justice. This position involves significant responsibilities, including:
- Providing oversight for formal, quasi-judicial hearings, and proceedings conducted by Immigration Judges within a designated region.
- Offering expert advice and guidance to executive and senior leadership on complex legal matters, which may influence operational decisions or set precedents in court decisions and actions.
- Analyzing and evaluating judicial decisions to assess their impact on immigration judges, court policies and procedures, and the immigration judge program.
- Collaborating with the Assistant Chief Immigration Judge (ACIJ) to monitor the performance of Immigration Judges, ensuring they exhibit appropriate judicial behavior and temperament.
- Developing budgetary and staffing requirements, adhering to budgetary constraints and guiding policies.
- Managing and overseeing or formally evaluating the ACIJ cadre and the Immigration Judge Corps.
Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for the position of Regional Deputy Chief Immigration Judge, candidates must meet the following educational and professional requirements:
Education:
- Possession of an . or a . degree from an accredited institution recognized by the . Department of Education.
Licensure:
- Active membership in the bar, duly licensed, and authorized to practice law as an attorney under the laws of any state, territory of the ., or the District of Columbia.
Experience:
- A minimum of seven years of post-bar admission legal experience, including experience as a licensed attorney involved in preparing for, participating in, and/or appealing court or administrative agency proceedings at the federal, state, or local level. Qualifying trial experience involves cases with filed complaints or issued charging documents by courts, administrative entities, grand juries, or appropriate military authorities. Relevant administrative experience includes cases initiated by governmental administrative bodies.

- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in immigration law and procedure, including regulatory, statutory, administrative, and judicial case law, or the proven ability to become fully knowledgeable about the complex field of law and apply that knowledge to specific cases.
- Executive management and legal experience in court system management involving allocation, planning, and directing of human and fiscal resources, supervision of staff, evaluation of program effectiveness, and compliance with departmental and agency fair employment initiatives.
- Expert communication skills to direct staff, provide legal advice and guidance, and develop program and policy guidance to enhance court operations; leadership and judicial temperament to manage legal staff in varied immigration courts under challenging and sensitive conditions.
Salary Information:
The salary for the position of Regional Deputy Chief Immigration Judge ranges from $150,160 to $225,700 per year. The position falls under the pay scale and grade ES 00.
