Legal Practice Assistant - Supreme Court and Appellate Litigation (Paralegal) Duties: Assists with the preparation and court filing of pleadings, briefs, and other court papers. Proofreads briefs, memoranda of law, opinions, and other documents. Cite-checks briefs and other legal documents, shepardizes authorities, and verifies the accuracy of quoted material and cited exhibits. Assists with retrieval of rules, regulations, and company profiles, as needed. Assists with preparation for oral arguments, presentations, and client meetings. Assists with the practice's business development efforts, including by monitoring daily search results from a variety of sources. Works with attorneys to help generate materials for internal and external presentations, including creating PowerPoint presentations and summarizing relevant material. Works in partnership with various departments, including attorney recruiting and development, global business development, and marketing and communications, on practice group initiatives. Performs non-legal research using various research tools, including the Internet, Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER and other court-related websites for case law, statutes, articles, books, etc. Updates attorney and case team binders. Organizes and manages electronic and paper files. Ensures that all files are maintained with firm-approved protocols and case management systems. Maintains the integrity of client files. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor A A?s degree. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with relevant Firm computer software (., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with the ability to learn new software and operating systems. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills. Strong research skills and proficiency in using various research tools. Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Ability to navigate various electronic databases and document repositories. Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team.
