Job Title: Fall 2025 SEC Scholars Legal Program - HQ (1L, 2L, 3L, or .) (Volunteer)

Job Responsibilities:
Participants in the Fall 2025 SEC Scholars Legal Program will engage in a variety of legal operations tasks. The program is designed to provide volunteer opportunities for JD and . students to gain hands-on experience with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Interns will work directly with SEC staff members on projects that encompass a broad scope of the Commission's work, including:

- Supporting litigation efforts.
- Assisting in drafting new regulations.
- Contributing to reviews and examinations.
- Participating in public outreach initiatives.

Interns will be assigned to specific divisions and offices within the SEC headquarters, such as the Office of Commissioner Crenshaw, Division of Corporation Finance, Division of Enforcement, and many others. The work schedule will be either full-time or part-time, depending on the academic course load of the selectees and the needs of the division or office. Students are required to work a minimum of 16 hours per week.

Education and Experience Information:
Eligibility for the SEC Scholars Legal Program requires:

- Enrollment or acceptance for enrollment in a JD or . program at an accredited law school on at least a half-time basis, as determined by the educational institution.
- A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of or higher on a scale, or the equivalent.

Applicants must maintain student status throughout their volunteer service. Proof of enrollment at an accredited law school must be provided by the selection date. Qualifying education must be from an institution recognized by the . Department of Education. Foreign education credentials must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in the interpretation of foreign education programs to ensure they are equivalent to those gained in a . education program.

Salary Information:
This is a volunteer position, and as such, there is no compensation. Under . 3111, a student volunteer is not considered a Federal employee for purposes other than injury compensation and law related to the Tort Claims Act. Volunteer service does not provide eligibility for leave or other employee benefits, although a transportation subsidy may be available for travel to and from the assigned duty station. Selectees for this position are ineligible for health benefits, life insurance, retirement plans, and long-term care insurance. Volunteer service may be extended at the discretion of the agency, but this appointment does not confer eligibility for conversion to a term, career, or career-conditional appointment in the competitive service.
