Job Title: Law Student Intern
Job Responsibilities:
- Interns will gain practical experience in a legal field and perform meaningful work toward the completion of their degree.
- Interns may be placed in various divisions such as Antitrust, Consumer Protection, Criminal and Capital Appeals, Civil Litigation, Complex Litigation, Civil Legal Services, Child Support Enforcement, Revenue Litigation, Ethics, Lemon Law, Medicaid Fraud Control, Statewide Prosecution, Cyber Fraud Enforcement, and the Office of the Solicitor General.
- Responsibilities vary by division, including:
* Assisting with enforcement of state and federal antitrust laws, consumer protection laws, criminal appeals, civil litigation, and more.
* Involvement in civil investigations, litigation, and providing legal assistance.
* Engaging in high-impact cases, constitutional challenges, and statutory interpretation.
* Supporting the enforcement of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.
* Participating in the prosecution of fraud involving Medicaid providers and cybercrimes related to fraud and identity theft.
* Assisting with legal services required by state agencies, including representation in administrative hearings and courts.
Education and Experience Information:
- The internship program is open to students enrolled in an accredited ABA law school.
- Internships are unpaid and can be for academic credit or through participation in law school-sponsored programs.
- Students must intern a minimum of 20 hours per week or as prescribed by their college or school.
- 2nd and 3rd year law students are expected to provide a writing sample at the time of the interview if selected.
- Documentation from an advisor or university confirming enrollment and eligibility for academic credit or participation in a school-sponsored program is required.
Salary Information:
- The internship is unpaid. Interns will not be compensated or eligible for any benefits except for Worker’s Compensation benefits.
Important Duties and Requirements:
- Students must complete and submit an application packet by the specified deadlines for each term.
- Required application materials include an internship application form, résumé, letter from an advisor or university, and an official or unofficial transcript.
- Interns must undergo a preliminary background screening, which includes a criminal background check.
- Interns must report any criminal history information, regardless of whether records have been sealed or expunged.
- Interns must certify the accuracy of the information provided and consent to the release of information related to their ability, employment history, and fitness for employment.

- The Office of the Attorney General is a criminal justice agency, and interns must adhere to related statutes and regulations.
- Interns must comply with Florida Statutes such as Chapter 542 (Antitrust), Chapter 120 (Administrative Hearings), and Chapter 112, Part III (Florida Code of Ethics), among others.
- Legal responsibilities may involve assisting with litigation, enforcement, and compliance under various statutory provisions.
