The SALT Manager, Unclaimed Property/Escheat, is responsible for advising clients on tax implications and other accounting matters related to unclaimed property compliance and consulting. This unique role requires a professional with strong tax and accounting skills to work in a consultative capacity, analyzing and modeling sporadic data sets to recommend courses of action and ensure compliance with state unclaimed property laws. The manager will also work closely with core tax and audit partners and senior managers to provide SALT expertise to clients.
Job Duties:
Conduct research on complex situations and provide recommendations
Obtain and manipulate data from clients for preparation of annual escheat returns
Utilize FSI Track and other systems for data gathering and import into FSI Track for return preparation
Identify and apply appropriate exemptions/deferrals
Perform reconciliations on gathered data to reported data
Respond to notices from state authorities
Assist with due diligence letter processing and client payment processing
Provide support during unclaimed property audits
Draft memorandums and opinions on escheat issues
Develop policies and procedures and address internal controls
Represent clients during audits and voluntary disclosures
Identify gift card planning opportunities and assist with implementation
Conduct client interviews, onsite visits, and workplans
Review general ledger detail, banking records, and other relevant data for escheat items
Prepare and review scheduling decks for analysis
Assist with client remediation procedures
Develop exposure quantification models
Assist with client refund review process
Apply all applicable state tax consulting specialties and confer with other professionals when necessary
Ensure engagement letters are adopted and manage engagements
Assist with developing selling strategies
Achieve/assist with securing annual business development goal of $250k - $350k+
Achieve 3-5 annual new business leads
Update CRM entries regularly
Actively participate in trade organizations and public speaking events
Manage client expectations and oversee and project manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously
Represent clients before tax authorities on contested issues
Utilize FSI Track, tax research databases, and other software for tasks
Maintain knowledge of various GL systems
Participate in learning and executing technology enhancements for unclaimed property group
Other duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise SALT Senior Associates and Associates on assigned engagements and review work product
Train SALT Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns on relevant software
Evaluate performance and assist in setting goals for professional development
Provide periodic feedback and complete performance evaluations
Act as Career Advisor to SALT Senior Associates and Associates
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Education:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in Accounting
Experience:
5+ years of experience in tax, financial statement auditing, internal auditing, or forensic accounting in a public accounting firm or in-house organization
Prior supervisory experience
License/Certifications:
CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA)
Software:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word
Experience with Power BI, Alteryx, and other software

Ability to multitask and work independently or in a team environment
